Why I Enjoy Dungeons and Dragons

Recently, I was introduced to a game called Dungeons and Dragons. I had heard of this game but never tried playing it. Although it was quite popular, I never imagined myself enjoying it or even playing it.

When I signed up for this activity during the summer program of my school, it was called Fantasy Adventure Improvisational Acting and Creative Writing. I expected it to be boring and only signed up because I had to. I was surprised when I actually liked the activity and wanted to continue to attend it.

I personally think that this game is creative and has endless limits. Battling and adventuring with my friends was really enjoyable and I suggest it to writers and actors. I find creating your character and adventuring the best part, in fact, all of it is interesting.

I think that this game can improve logical thinking, problem-solving, planning, teamwork and much more. Even if this game is quite a time-consuming activity, it's worth the time. I'm not sure how to explain why it's so amazing but I got addicted instantly.

Our adventure was to help a Lord secure their manor for their baby's birth. Then a lot more plot twists.

“With limits come creativity”

Creating your character has limits, but like the quote above suggests, limits promote creativity. For example, I created a character called Remi, who's a Dragonborn sorcerer. Your limits are that you must pick a class within the selection and your race also must be within the selection. This doesn't mean that your entire character is limited to certain backgrounds, your background is completely up to you. Even with these limits, the way you play your character is completely up to your written background. Often, your party have certain associations with certain characters. The ones I recorded are below with my party (it's quite interesting). I will explain each one.

Remi (my character): Ray of Frost

My character used RoF (I like abbreviations) twice before I left my character in the hands of my friend, both knocked my target unconscious. My character for some reason has very good luck on using RoF, even when I gave it to my friend to use.

Xyloh: Using wood weapons against metal weapons

I left during the last day of our adventure so I didn't really get to see this but my friends told me about it later. Turns out all her weapons broke. #dndfail

Vailene: Jumping out of the window/just random stuff

At the beginning of our adventure, while we were getting ready, the player decided to randomly jump out of the window and all of us were just laughing so hard.

She: Bad luck/throwing daggers

I wasn't here either but my friends said that they had really bad luck and missed everything... just sad. #dndfail

Darigone: Hideaways/laundry

This is one of the funniest things that happened during our time together. During our first battle, they ran away and hid as their first move. On the adventure, the moment when they heard something bad happen, they went into a laundry room and started making a clothes tent. While I was gone, they apparently saved the baby and had it named after them.

Bree: Busting down doors

This is sorta weird but during our adventure, while we were securing the manor, they busted down a door and did so again later on in the story, made me laugh pretty hard.

Phoebe: Insulting people

I'm just going to keep this short, during our first battle, they insulted the bad guy...

This was honestly a quick post since I'm on holiday, I might write a blog post on my holiday next. I love DnD as a game and hope that you try as well. Sorry for the short post. Cya!
