Hey everyone, welcome to Teen Insignia, how's life going? Probably bad... unless you're in some sort of virus-free location. Right now, you're either insanely bored and annoying your parents to death or overworked with your home learning, so why not try some home spa treatments to get rid of some stress? Any other time, these would be perfect for the DIY spa day with your girls if your guardians don't let you go out for a spa day. I gathered some recipes, both from family and the internet. Anyways, let's get on with the list, and while you're at it, mix up a bit of infused spa water, I'll write one on that in the future, for now, click here.
Brightening Facial
So now all of our fav spas are closed and we're all stuck inside, what do we do to kill time or take a break from all that work? Try this facial treatment, you probably have all these ingredients and if not, they're super easy to buy, unless everything is closed. Let's get on with the recipe.
You're going to need:
- A lemon
- 3 strawberries
- A banana
That lemon exfoliates, the strawberries' explosion of vitamin C lightens up your dark spots and that banana? It conditions. So what do you do when you've got the ingredients? Here are the steps to making this edible and healthy treatment.
1. Remove the stems of the strawberries and slice them. Be careful with the knife!
2. Crush the sliced strawberries in a small bowl with that banana.
3. Add the juice of the lemon and carefully apply to the face, make sure to avoid the eyes, you don't want to irritate them with the lemon juice.
Keep it on for 15 minutes or until it feels dry, when that timer rings, rinse it off with cool water. That wasn't hard, or was it? Anyways, let's get on with the next at-home treatment.
Chocolate Lip Scrub Mask
I love chocolate, everyone does, but have you ever thought about putting it on your lips? I haven't, so when I was researching for this post, I saw this DIY recipe I had to put here. While this one's ingredients aren't 'I will find it when I open my fridge' as the previous one, but are still items you can probably find anywhere.
You're going to need:

- 2 tablespoons or 50ml of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon or 5ml of vanilla extract
- 3/4 teaspoon or 4ml of honey
- 2 teaspoons or 10ml of olive oil
Why does this work? That delicious cocoa powder moisturise your lips deeply and removes tan and vanilla extract is a full package of anti-ageing benefits and antioxidants that prevent and reverse skin damage. The steps to producing this tasty lip mask are below:
1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl
2. Apply a small amount of the scrub to your lips and rub it in a circular motion
3. Leave it on for a couple of minutes
4. Wipe it off with a wet cloth or lukewarm water
This mask is sure to make you crave chocolate! Our next recipe covers the body.
Cucumber-Mint Body Scrub
This minty scrub refreshes the body after a stressful day, this includes the well-known coconut oil that comes in to give your skin that warm glow even after washing! Below are the ingredients you are going to need.
- 1/3 cup or 79ml of chopped cucumbers
- 1/3 cup or 79ml of fresh mint leaves
- 2/3 cup or 158 ml of granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons or 10 ml of raw virgin coconut oil, melted
The cucumbers and mint are hydrating and bring soothing inflammation-quelling properties to this body scrub. The fine sugar helps shed dry skin and as mentioned, the coconut oil gives your body that special glow.
1. In a small bowl or a mortar and pestle, mash the cucumber and mint into pulp, then, you want to squeeze the liquid out and throw away the pulp.
2. Add the sugar and the melted coconut oil and mix until smooth.
3. Apply to clean skin using circular motions. Rinse it off, then towel dry.
This recipe creates 2/3 cup or 158ml and if not used immediately, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 1 week. These 3 recipes all cover different parts of the body. All ingredients are easy to buy. While the world is under this disease, us teens shouldn't worry about the problems adults are going to deal with, and instead, let's make the most of the time in isolation! If you live in China, where the virus is starting to end, invite a couple of your friends and have a spa day!
